Release of The Birth of Cornelius by Corneille

Wednesday, June 20
@@Sony Music Japan International

Originally from Rwanda, Corneille is an RB singer who has risen on his own merits to achieve gold disks in Canada and France. After losing his family in the Rwandan genocide, he came to Europe all alone, then emigrated to Canada. He is now based in Montreal. His performance on Canada National Day at Aichi Expo 2005 led to this Japan debut. Corneille is not only an artist but also a champion of humanitarian causes. He was appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Spokesperson for the Canadian Red Cross in 2005.

This album, his first in English, goes on sale here ahead of the worldwide release and a showcase live will be organised on June 25 at the Oscar Peterson Theatre of the Embassy of Canada. We are pleased to offer 10 pairs of tickets for this concert.

Please apply by e-mail with your names, address and phone number no later than June 18. Ticket winners will be notified by e-mail.

Sylvie Belanger Between Sound and Image

Thursday, May 31 - Saturday, July 7
@@Yokohama Portside Gallery

Creator Sylvie Belanger, from Quebec, is a leading representative of Canada's art scene. Her works have been presented in many locations throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Between Sound and Image is a multimedia installation finding its inspiration in an Argentine tango by Piazzola. In a poetic space created by fragments of sounds and images, it evokes, like a tango, the tensions produced by the duality between desire, pleasure, suffering, life, and death.

Sketches of Frank Gehry - first-run documentary on Canada-born architect/genius

Saturday, June 2
@@Bunkamura Le Cinéma. Other cities later.

A master of modern architecture, Frank Gehry was born in Canada. His highly original creations are found throughout the world-the Guggenheim Museum in Bilboa and Disney Symphony Hall in Los Angeles being just two examples. In recent years, Gehry has also attracted attention as a Tiffany jewellery designer. This film by Sydney Pollack, Gehry's long-time friend, strives to give a complete picture of how the unique architecture came about, starting with the creative process and proceeding to a close-up look at Gehry, the man.

2005, 84 minutes, in English with Japanese subtitles.
