Avril Lavigne and SUM41, a four-piece band from Toronto, are coming to Japan together to pump up Summer Sonic this year. Lavigne has just released her long-awaited third album, The Best Damn Thing, which is proving to be a major hit. SUM41's new album, Underclass Hero, is due to be released in July. Lavigne and Deryck Whibley of SUM41 married last year. Don't miss their joyful and vigorous live performances.




Release of Feist's second album The Reminder

Feist, also known as one of the members of the Canadian alternative rock band, Broken Social Scene, will release her second album called The Reminder, two years after her last album, Let It Die, released in 2005. Her last album proved a major hit, going platinum in Canada and gold in France and winning gBest Alternative Albumh and gBest New Artisth prizes at the Juno Awards, Canada's version of the Grammy Awards. Her second album will be released with perfect timing: just before she performs at Fuji Rock Festival 07.




Release of Jacksoul's My Soul

Popular Canadian soul singer Haydain Neele and Juno award winning soul band Jacksoul will be making their Japanese debut with their mainly-covers album entitled My Soul. After touring Canada with James Brown on his last tour of the country, Jacksoul went back into the studio and created a body of work that pays homage to some of the best pop, rock and soul recordings ever made. The tracks span the last 50 years of music, from Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield, to Radiohead and Jane's Addiction. To celebrate the release, they'll be performing a special intimate set at the Cotton Club in Tokyo on July 22 and 23.

Call Me Irresponsible, the third album of Michael Bublé, a singer from Vancouver, is to finally be released in Japan. Since the album was released worldwide on May 1, it has moved to the top of the charts in Canada, Australia, South Africa, Europe and Singapore, and even reached number one on the Billboard chart in the United States. The album includes two original songs as well as superb standards and covers of contemporary hit numbers. Bublé's mellow yet soulful vocals will surely enchant his listeners.

The third festival, under the theme of gDiaspora Souls,h focuses on the journeys of four heroines who wander in search of their proper place and reaches answers to all kinds of questions widely shared by women today. The Ecstasy of Rita Joe, written by George Ryga, Helen's Necklace, written by Carole Frechette, YOU ARE HERE, written by Daniel MacIvor and Orphan Muses, written by Michel Marc Bouchard will be played by Japanese theatrical companies. Readings, lectures and symposiums will also be held.

The photos taken in the far north starting in the 1990s provide an insight into the modern life of the people who live there. The photos were taken by Miyagi University Associate Professor Anne McDonald, a researcher of Inuits in Nunavut, the newest Canadian territory; Hiroshi Isogai, a representative of Shimizu Kobundo Shobo; Hizuki Isogai; and Teruo Sekiguchi, a photographer.
